Historic Sites of the Jeju April 3rd
Beodeulmot
Site Overview
On December 22, 1948, 76 family members of fugitives from Gasi-ri, who had been held at Pyoseon Elementary School, were executed by state forces. The victims’ bodies were covered with dirt and left unattended for about a year. As Gasi-ri was rebuilt, the families gradually recovered the remains of their loved ones.
Beodeulmot is now a small field located behind an inactive substation. This field is lower than the nearby road. Today, no trace of the Jeju April 3rd massacre remains, and a signboard marking it as a historical site is situated far from Beodeulmot.
