Historic Sites of the Jeju April 3rd
Youngnam-dong
Site Overview
At the time of Jeju’s April 3rd Uprising and Massacre, around 16 households were living in Youngnam-dong. On 18 November 1948, an order of forcible evacuation was made under the scorched-earth policy by the army, and most villagers hid in nearby forests or caves. Unfortunately, most of them were killed by the army and the village was never restored. The village was the only slash-and-burn field in Jeju and its ruins are well-preserved.
